These corgis don’t want to go in the water, and I can’t blame them. That water is probably cold and hard to snuggle in, and corgis ONLY want to snuggle, man. Their fur is made of clouds. I’m going to kidnap these little guys and make sure they only ever have to cuddle, and that’s it, forever.

I find this very interesting just based on the previous works of Hans Zimmer. Namely: He wrote the score for The Rock in 1996, and later Gladiator in 2000, and both scores were stylistically very similar. When I watched the latter movie, it was easy to guess that Zimmer had scored it. I was surprised to find his name on The Dark Knight, because it didn’t carry that trademark style, but with Inception, it sounded Knight-esque.

Maybe he’s playing around with some new styles, or maybe he’s just doing his best to match the atmosphere of the movies he’s scoring, but either way, there’s clearly more thought put into it than just trite emotional cues. (via littletinyfish)

In the category of putting your money where your mouth is: I have no idea if people will be willing to pay to comment — if they’re reluctant to pay for online news why would they pay to comment on news? — but I’ll sure be watching this.

I love this idea. Has anybody ever read comments on news sites? They’re absolutely worthless. A paywall would mitigate this problem by either making it cost you money (and reputation) to leave your sniping, baseless accusations, or block you from doing it at all. The next best thing would be if they just removed commenting altogether. (via nostrich)

I was taking pictures of the scenery near Lake Windermere in the U.K. This black-headed gull was flying straight at me. It was oblivious to the camera for a while but then put the brakes on and flared its wings before it hit me in the lens. That intense look must be the last thing many small creatures see.

Comic book murals are not a new thing, but I’ve never seen one that has been put together so creatively. Usually they go from left-to-right, or make a 2×3 grid or something flush. Look at the hand: it’s not even upright.

Here’s what they look like next to each other. You can barely tell they hook together. It makes this fact seem extra-secret.

Wow, I’ve only not seen 15 out of 50. I must be a cinematography freak. There are some kinda weird ones like The Prestige and Zodiac, which were both fine movies, but I didn’t particularly think they had superior cinematography, but what is a list except fodder for controversy? It’s really interesting to see Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow get a nod.

(( Secret World )) 4k Footage—This is one of YouTube’s feature demos for their new 4k resolution support. That means you can now upload videos that are 4× the resolution of HD. To paraphrose Roy Scheider, you’re gonna need a bigger display. You’re also gonna need a faster processor and connection speed.

What does this mean for the little people? Not much. Flash’s scaling algorithm makes the higher resolutions look over-sharp when they’re scaled down, and even reasonably fast processors choke on the frame rate. But it’s a step forward for technology, and eventually consumer demand will catch up to the supply.

I’ll have to try it on my 27” iMac, which still doesn’t have the resolution to display a 4k film at its native size, and I haven’t tried it in HTML5 yet, either, which is presumably less processor-intensive and might even render on the video card. (via littlemonsterfilms)
